Healing Power of Herbs

| The
True Healing Power Of Natural Herbs, Fruits and Vegetables. This
information I am about to share with you is regarding the true healing power of herbs,
fruits and vegetables focusing on the old ways in a new time. Most of us are too
busy now days to take time to care for one of the most precious things in our
lives, our bodies. Getting the right amount of nutrients are essential.
Although herbs are not intended to take the place of all conventional
medical treatment in modern times, it is good for you to know its strong points.
Although there are many herbs, fruits, and vegetables to focus on that
provide healthy living which would take pages upon pages to write about, I
decided to target the few that my ancestors used to live a
long, healthy life. My
grandmother, descendant of a proud Indian tribe and African ancestors was from
the southern part of North Carolina in the United States. Her mother taught her
the true secrets of healing herbs and the value of living a long healthy life by
eating fruits and vegetables. Back
in those days my Grandparents and Great Grands lived almost entirely
upon the natural products of the earth, raising nearly everything they ate.
Herbs, roots, and barks were used for teas and healing medicines. Old Traditions Of Eating Healthy
The beginning
of their day to help with energy among other things my grandmother would have a
cup of Alfalfa Tea, called by another name at that time but it likeness was of
the same herb. This produces as much calcium as an ordinary glass of milk,
nearly the same amount of iron as two ounces of liver and enough B-complex for
most rattle nerves. It produces
plenty of enzymes for good metabolism of ingested fats and
sufficient fiber to lower
the highest cholesterol. Also Alfalfa
is high in protein and contains vitamins A, B1, B63 B 12, C, E, and K1, along
with the minerals calcium, potassium, phosphorus, iron, and zinc. Alfalfa
(Also known as the king of herbs)
Alfalfa was
just one of the few herbs my ancestors used daily for a healthier life.
Though it was used as an animal feed centuries ago by the Arabs who named
the herb “al-fac-facah”, when it comes to nourishment and healing, Alfalfa
is surely a good herb. None of us
here today even historians cannot truly verify which region herbs originally
began growing, just as no one really knows where the true Garden of Eden
started. What we do know is that
many herbs and cultural secrets were taken from humble tribal people to far away
lands only to be exploited and diminish down for commercial use. Fruits and Vegetables
Fruit or vegetable was served for each meal in my family.
Consuming at least five servings of fruits and vegetables each day will reduce
your risk of colorectal cancer. The average diet is high in protein and low in
fruits and vegetables. My grandmother made fruits and vegetables the foundation
of her eating. Apples (fruit) were
eaten daily. Apples contain both
insoluble and soluble fiber. One medium (5 ounces) unpeeled apple provides over
3 grams of fiber, more than 10% of the daily fiber intake recommended by
experts. Knocking down cholesterol levels, reducing your risk of
hardening
of the arteries, heart attack, and stroke. Vegetables
served for dinner or supper as known in the old South, consist of white
vegetables like potatoes and vegetables with lots of colors such as carrots were
served along with a dark leafy vegetable such as Greens.
Greens were served regular due to it being a natural laxative and sources
of B-complex vitamin. In case you’re not familiar with the different types of
Greens that are popular even today for cooking, there are
collards, kale, mustard
greens, and turnip greens also well known and widely used as an old African
American favorite dish. Now, other
cultures realizing its nutritional value have embraced greens as part of their
menu. Scientists have discovered
that sulforaphane, found in collards, boosts the body's detoxification enzymes,
potentially by changing gene expression, thus helping to clear potentially
carcinogenic substances more quickly. Collard greens is an excellent source of
the three main antioxidants in foods, vitamin C, Vitamin E and vitamin A as many
dark green vegetables. Aloe Vera
An Aloe Vera
Plant was always kept in my family’s household. Due to being fair skin people,
to protect their bodies from the damage of being out in the hot sun all day when
they worked and farmed the land, they used the liquid from the leaves of the
aloe vera plant. The aloe vera leaf is also used for minor burns, bedsores and
hemorrhoids. Herbs Were The First Medicine Used By Man
With
today’s sociality dependency of over the counter and prescription drugs there
is a need for knowledge of natural herbs. The term “herb” also has more than
one definition. Botanists describe an herb as a small, seed-baring plant with
fleshy, rather than woody, parts from which we get the term “herbaceous”).
Herbs can be used with oils and vinegars to enhance salads, also some herbs can
be used as juice, or herbal wines. Herbs can be used also in teas to reduce
stress, help with restless sleeping, and strengthen immune systems and more.
Most herbal teas are safe for regular consumption; however there are some herbs
that have toxic or allergenic effects. Roots
Roots on the
other hand, are taken from a semi-mature or mature root from a plant for use in
teas and similar uses as herbs. Edible
Flowers
The use of
cauliflower and broccoli, which is the unopened flower buds of those plants, was
used widely and is good eating when seasoned correctly. Cloves,
commonly used to flavor baked goods are also the dried unopened flower buds of
an evergreen tree and used as a seasoning for food. Salt Substitute
Powdered or
granular kelp is a good substitute for table salt, although sodium is present,
it’s nicely offset by potassium, which is totally absent from ordinary table
salt. Yellow Evening Primrose
Also known as
Oenothera hookeri, the root of this plant was used for hunting wild game and to
avoided encounters with snake bites. Modern Day Food Processing And Soil Abuse
Many
commercially available bulk herbs these days contain residues from agricultural
chemicals, fumigation and irradiation. Organic cultivation allows the
manufacturer of herbal extracts to maintain access to high quality botanical
ingredients. Due to food
processing and soil abuse, modern foods are deficient in may important minerals.
For decades commercial farmers have supplemented the soil with phosphorus,
potassium and
nitrogen using lime and sulfur. The results are unnatural fast growth and swanky
looking plants, grossly deficient in many minerals vital to human health.
Many people now days, not pleased with the results they are
finding in the local grocery store, have turned to growing their own food once
again when they have enough
land and time to handle this duty. Neverless, you will need natural pest control
that will not defeat the purpose of growing fruit and vegetables. For
a healthier body…
Beware of foods that were grown using synthetic fertilizers and pesticides
also,
Natural Pest Controls
Try using a
good insecticidal dust made of crushed and ground bay leaves, peppermint, tansy,
and cayenne pepper. Sprinkle it around troubled plants in the garden as an
insect prevention. Also use kelp infused in water to feed your plants and to get
rid of pesky bugs. Kelp is beneficial enough just as a plant food, but it will
also repel aphids and Japanese beetles. Lemon balm is another good
insect-repelling dust for the garden. As
a deter of Ants from building their colonies all over the place sprinkle bone
meal, wood ash, or crushed and powdered charcoal around your garden area. Getting To Know Herbs
